Protecting a nuclear power station from flood

Sellafield Nuclear Power Station

Sellafied Nuclear Power Station – Cumbria, United-Kingdom

Sellafied Ltd is responsible for delivering, processing and safely managing nuclear waste on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Sellafield installation has been operational since the 1940s. It was used as a support to war efforts and known as the Royal Ordnance factory.

This site also represents the very first place where was marketed worldwide a nuclear plant – Calder Hall – which generated electricity from 1956 to 2003.

Today, Sellafield Nuclear Power station welcomes a wealth of activities including:

  • Decommissioning of historic buildings that were linked to former defense works sites
  • Used fuel management, including Magnox and Oxide that supplies the treatment
  • Nuclear waste proper management and storage

In January 2015, Sellafield Ltd purchased 32 Water-Gate barriers WL-2650:

“The service we had was very good, communications were excellent and they treated us in a responsible and professional way” – Said Trevor Palmer, SADS Project manager.
