Protecting a residential area

Rotura — New Zeland

Case study

The residential area of Rotura  is not close to a river but the field next to it fills up like a basin as the water rises. Important landscaping work would be necessary to remedy this recurring problem.

In July 2009 as the flood was imminent, the local residents set-up 350′ of the 21″ high Water-Gate® anti-flood barrier.

It took 3 men 30 minutes to bring the barrier to the field, unroll them and attach all seven of them together.

Result :  15 homes were saved from flood.

The residents took turns during the night to keep an eye on the installations. The next day the water withdraws. They only needed to detach them, rinse them in and out with fresh water, dry them and store them away… until next time.
